Meet the Chief

Christopher Burnett proudly serves the men and women of the Mount Laurel Fire Department and Mount Laurel Emergency Medical Services as the Chief of the Department responsible for the daily operations, reporting directly to the Board of Fire Commissioners.

Burnett is a 30-year veteran of emergency services, starting his emergency services career in 1992 joining the department as a junior firefighter. He also served as an EMT with the Fellowship First Aid Squad (before becoming Mount Laurel EMS). Burnett became a career firefighter in 1997 and rose through the ranks serving as a lieutenant, captain, training officer, fire marshal, and deputy fire chief. In 2021 he was appointed Chief of Department. In 2022, Mount Laurel Township named him EMS Chief through a shared services agreement.

Burnett grew up in the neighboring municipality of Evesham Township and graduated from Cherokee High School. He first became interested in the fire service where his older brother had joined and was an active member with the Marlton Fire Company. Although residing in Evesham, his residence bordered Mount Laurel. Due to close proximity, Burnett joined the Mount Laurel Fire Department and served as a volunteer firefighter for five years. While serving, he attended college and graduated from Camden County College in 1997 with an Associates Degree, Holy Family University in 2000 with a Bachelors in Arts. He would further pursue and obtain a Masters of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2018.

Burnett also holds the following State of New Jersey certifications: Fire Official, Fire Instructor Level II, Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Public Manager, and Qualified Purchasing Agent.

Burnett also served/serves in the following positions: President of the Burlington County Fire Chiefs Association in 2020, New Jersey Director for the International Association of Fire Chiefs, Eastern Division since 2021, and Vice President of the Burlington County Fire Chiefs Association in 2022.
